Netflix movie Interceptor has a script for sequel

Netflix movie Interceptor already has a sequel script written.

Since its release last month, this rip-roaring action movie set at a missile interception station in the Pacific Ocean has become one of the most-streamed titles of the year, so naturally, questions about a follow-up soon arose.

“It’s blown me away,” writer-director Matthew Reilly told Variety. “I was hoping to sneak into the top 10 on Netflix, but coming in at number one everywhere? I don’t think anybody was expecting it to take the world by storm. I’m just as confused as everybody else.”

The Australian novelist-turned-filmmaker then revealed he’s already written a sequel, which Netflix “likes”, but is still to greenlight.

As for whether Chris Hemsworth’s pothead Jed cameo could be repeated further down the line, Reilly commented: “I don’t want to speak for him but I reckon Interceptor was a one-and-done. But let’s just say the sequel is about 10 times bigger. If he wants to be in it, I’m pretty sure we can fit him in somewhere.

“I got Chris straight off the Thor set. I got to direct him for two hours. He doesn’t mess around. He’s laser-focused. ”

Hemsworth has never been busier though, with Furiosa just the latest blockbuster filling his time, following production wrapping on Extraction 2 and Thor: Love and Thunder.

With Star Trek 4 officially in development too, would he reprise his role as George Kirk for a flashback (or resurrection)?

“There was talk about me doing the movie with Chris Pine at one point, the script was put together and then it fell apart,” the actor recently said.

“But if JJ Abrams called me tomorrow and said, ‘Chris Pine and I want to do it,’ I’d probably say, ‘Yeah, let’s go for it.'”

Interceptor is now streaming on Netflix.
